Abstract ABA Insensitive 5 (ABI5) is a basic leucine zipper transcription factor that plays a key role in the regulation of seed germination and early seedling growth in the presence of ABA and abiotic stresses. ABI5 is a key component in ABA-triggered pathways during germination, seedling establishment, and vegetative growth (Lopez-Molina et al., 2001); in addition, it has been reported to play certain roles in nitrogen assimilation and signaling (Signora et al., 2001).

It has been demonstrated that activity of ABI5 is transcriptionally and post‐translationally regulated. Transgenic plants of ABI5-5, ABI5 S42A, ABI5 S145A, and ABI5 S42AS145AT201A were generated by Agrobacterium tumefaciens GV3101-mediated floral infiltration (Clough and Bent, 1998).
